The house

How Orra works: no packages, one specialist per journey, and a person on the phone at any hour of the day or night.

A sleeper train dining car at night, brass lamps glowing over white tablecloths

Orra is a placeholder name for a small travel house, and this page is a placeholder for what such a house might say about itself. Take it as a sketch.

The idea is simple. We do not sell packages and we do not publish a catalogue of prices. You tell us about the people coming, the time you have and the sort of trip you want, and one specialist, someone who has travelled the region you are asking about, designs a route around you. They draft it, you change it, they change it back, and eventually you have a plan that is yours.

That specialist remains your point of contact throughout. They book the lodges, brief the guides and check the connections. They also make the unglamorous decisions: which side of the train, which room in the hotel, and which morning to leave a day empty. When you are travelling, a line staffed by people who know your itinerary is open twenty-four hours a day, because a missed connection at midnight needs a person, not a menu.

We are small deliberately. A house that is too large begins to treat a journey as a product, and the point of the exercise is to treat it as a piece of design. We would rather turn down a commission than hand it to someone who does not know the ground.

None of this is complicated, but it is rarer than it should be. If it sounds like the way you would like a trip to be made, we should talk.

  1. No packages

Every journey starts from a blank page and a conversation. If we cannot make it better than something you could book yourself, we will say so.

  2. One specialist

The person who designs your route is the person you speak to before, during and after. You will never be handed to a stranger.

  3. Travelled first

We recommend only what we have slept in, walked, eaten or sailed ourselves. Opinions are expected and, where wrong, corrected.

  4. Always a person

A specialist-staffed line is open around the clock while you are away, because trains are late and weather does not keep office hours.

Every Orra journey begins with a half-hour call.

No fee to design, no obligation to book. Tell us roughly when, who with, and what you'd like to come home with.
